Our Story

We are a group of unique individuals who are interested to preserve this incredible spot of nature in the city.

Here is a photo of the founding members of the Friends of Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary.

During the first year 2021, the elected chairman Lourens Diedericks, did a lot of foot work and registered the group as a non-profit organisation.

We are privileged to have Johann Billman and Zander Smith of Blue Crane Restaurant as part of our committee.

In 2022, Anne-Marie Sparg a resident of Baileys Muckleneuk, was elected as chairman.

Together with Ben Breedlove who is qualified with a B.S., Game Management, M.S., Fisheries Management, M.S.P.H., Environmental Biology (Limnology) she initiated one of our first projects, cleaning the Blue Crane dam.

We received permission from Tshwane Nature Conservation, The Green Scorpions and Roads and Transport to aerate the dam to clean the water.

This project will soon be completed and then we hope to achieve a clear pool instead of stagnant heavy water.

We want to transform the Trim Park into a functional area for the residents to enjoy.

  • to come and renew/refresh themselves.
  • to come and do some grounding.

What is Grounding?

Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth.

This practice relies on earthing science and grounding physics to explain how electrical chargesTrusted Source from the earth can have positive effects on your body. This type of grounding therapy isn’t entirely the same as the technique that is used in mental health treatment.
