De Jong Diving Centre – CUP

THE NIEUW MUCKLENEUK CUP

Tshwane has launched the Community Upliftment Precinct (CUP) initiative to support communities and organizations working alongside the City to improve and maintain local spaces.

Approved by the City Council on 30 November 2023, this initiative marks a significant step toward fostering collaboration between residents, businesses, and the City. It allows communities to formally partner with Tshwane to maintain public infrastructure in residential, business, and industrial areas—tasks like planting flowers, mowing lawns, and repairing sidewalks—after obtaining necessary permissions.

It’s important to note that the CUP initiative is voluntary. The CoT will continue to provide essential services, including electricity, waste removal, water, sanitation, traffic policing, and road maintenance.

The De Jong Park group encourages the community to join with us in this effort to contribute to making Nieuw Muckleneuk a precinct to take pride in.

The De Jong Diving Centre in Roper Street, is part of the Nieuw Muckleneuk community upliftment project.

Unfortunately, the centre was severely vandalized, with the changing rooms and toilets almost completely destroyed. Thanks to ongoing efforts of Koos Klopper, the changing rooms are now in better condition.

The urinals have been repaired using salvaged second-hand parts from other renovated buildings.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done, and we need funding to continue. We urge developers and residents to support this restoration project.

Once restored, the pool will be open for community swimmers and divers to enjoy.

Please contact  Koos Klopper, koos@som.co.za if you are interested in helping to restore the de Jong Dive Centre with any contributions.

Here is our De Jonge Revamp Estimate to explore and see where and how you can contribute.

The De Jong Diving Pool is in poor condition, and we are hopeful that community donors will help us restore it.

As per the CUP agreement the grass must be cut and the premises must be kept neat and tidy.

As per MOA with CoT the grass on the pavement in front of the de Jong Diving Pool is being cut.
